Magical Forestry Tour - Spring Experience
Following the success of the spring Magical Forestry Tour in May 2019, bookings are being taken for the next spring Magical Forestry Tour (May 10-15, 2020). Led by Richard Snashall, guests travel to the beautiful Kii Mountains of Wakayama, staying at a small family run hotel in the village of Kawayu Onsen. The Magical Forestry Tour offers guests the opportunity to become part of local life for 6 days (5 nights) joining in activities with hotel owner/farmer/forester and the family on their own land. These include conservation forestry, Japanese cooking, taiko drumming, tea thinning/harvesting (dependent on season), rice planting (depending on season), calligraphy, zen meditation, crafts and a visit to the local school. Guests will be able to enjoy hiking the breathtaking Kumanokodo, visiting local shrines and temples, and relax in the hotel's private hot spring onsens (baths) or enjoy an outdoor onsen in the smooth pebbles next to the Oto River. Much of the delicious fresh food served at the hotel is grown by the family and other local farmers. The Magical Forestry Tour is a relaxing, rejuvenating and personal experience for a small group.
